Business Meet 2011

A business meet on “Awareness Program on ETC based Solar Water Heating System: Testing Procedure and MNRE Standards” was organized on 23rd March 2011 at SPRERI. The objective of the business meet was to create awareness among the manufacturers regarding the various MNRE standards for ETC based solar water heating system.

Highlights of Business meet:
  • Thirty nine guests participated in the Business Meet. The participants included many renewable energy equipment manufacturers, specifically solar hot water manufacturers, representatives from R&D and academic institutions and presses & media and professionals from renewable energy associations.
  • The meeting started with a brief Address by Dr. M. Shyam, Director SPRERI. Dr. Shyam welcomed all the guests and presented a brief overview of SPRERI activities, particularly the MNRE sponsored Regional Test Center.
  • In the technical session Er. Swati Mane, Scientific Officer, SPRERI, Mr. Mayank Patel, Director, M/S SLT Energy Limited, Gandhinagar and Mr. G. Swamy, Vice President, Marketing, M/S Electrotherm Renewables, Ahmedabad made presentations on various aspects of testing, safety etc of ETC based solar water heating system.
  • Mrs. H.N. Mistry, Technical Officer, SPRERI explained actual field testing of ETC based solar water heating system in the SPRERI Test Centre.
Important observations and recommendations of the meeting:
Observations:
  • The evacuated tube collectors produced high temperature hot water/ steam. It can, therefore, be used for solar absorption/adsorption based cooling system, solar steam generation based power plant, etc. R & D institution may examine this aspect and pursue field scale trials, if concept is found acceptable.
Recommendations:
  • SPRERI may organize training programmes for all the manufacturers for capacity building in solar energy systems as well as creating awareness.
  • All the manufacturers were of the view that their samples be allocated to the nearest RTC for testing. This will greatly facilitate logistics in the process.
  • The minimum time take to get a thermal device like ETC based water heater tested in 6 months. The house recommended that additional test benches be established to complete this process within 4 months.
